Presenting Julia. After spending many seasons at The Shaw, the lovely Julia Course has covered a lot of different theatrical genres, been directed by many directors and worn a variety of costumes. She was set to play the emotionally layered character of Abbie in Desire Under the Elms last year – now shifted to this season. Julia spent some time with us talking about acting, her past roles at Shaw and how she’s kept busy. Due to severe restrictions affecting international travel, Desire Under the Elms director Selma Dimitrijevic is unable to join the Company this season. The Shaw’s Associate Artistic Director Kimberley Rampersad will take over directorial duties of Desire Under the Elms. Performances of the Eugene O'Neill masterpiece will shift from the intended July start to October 15. It will run concurrently with A Christmas Carol and Irving Berlin’s Holiday Inn. With the recent passing of Prince Philip, we thought it would be a good time to delve into our photo archives. On a tour of Canada the Queen and Prince Philip made a stop at The Shaw for the grand opening of the Festival Theatre and a production of You Never Can Tell. Seated next to the Queen is Calvin Rand, one of the original founders and President of The Shaw at the time. The brand new Festival Theatre was officially opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on June 28, 1973.
